Meghalaya is one of the State of India's seven sister's states, it means abode of clouds. When we are in our school days, reading about Meghalaya & Cherapunji for rainfall and clouds in all 12 months, never think that one day we'll visit and seen it's all beauty. On it's true name, this charming state will leave you bound by it's lush green valleys, high rainfalls and also by it's various bio diversity. Meghalaya offers you to see the natural beauty like valleys, waterfalls, clouds and other beautiful places.
We planned our 5days trip to this beautiful natural state in September 2019 from Lucknow by train to Guwahati. Guwahati is also a very beautiful place to visit as we experienced. We are 5 people, dreamed that we'll continue our trip form Guwahati to Shilong by Helicopter. And that day comes early, we book a Helicopter from Guwahati to Shilong. This is our first ever experience to see our planet from sky, beautiful clouds, hills, valleys, waterfalls and rivers. In that about our 2 Hours of journey we feel the natural world, it's beauty, can't explain in words. Okay ! Let it be. Continuing to best 5 places in Meghalaya what we experienced.

1. Cherrapunji
Cherrapunji in Meghalaya also know as Sohra is a subdivisional town in the East Kashi Hills District. Cherrapunji is credited as being wettest place on earth but now Mawsyaram holds the credit. It stills holds all time record credit for most rainfall in a calendar month and in a year also. The Dain-thlen, kynrem, Nohkalikai and most of the waterfalls attract every tourist eyes. Most attraction in Cherrapunji include Eco park, Garde of caves, Mawsmai cave, Mesmerising waterfall, Seven sisters falls and Living root bridge. Visiting here is must when you are planning for Meghalaya.

2. Shilong
Shilong well know as Scotland of the east, is one of the most popular tourist place in Meghalaya. Far from the busy life shilong has a forest hills, wonderful climate, natural beauty which always attract the tourist visiting from the world. Some of the most famous tourist places in Shilong are Shilong peak, Elephant falls, wards, lake and Don bosco museum. Its is the popular gateway to Meghalaya as having main airport of Meghalaya is in Shilong.

3. Double Decker Bridge
Deep in the forest of Meghalaya and surrounded by highly rainfall and clouds, double daker or living root bridge leaves a great impression on visitors. This bridge provide a stable alternative to wooden bridges. It takes around 15 years for a new root bridge to become strong enough to bear the people's weight. Some of these bridges are belived to hundred years old, but no one know the exact age of these.
Meghalaya;s most famous root bridge the double decker root bridge can be found in wettest place of earth i.e. Cherrapunji. There is about 11 functional bridges of this type bridges in this area, takes about two & half hours from Shilong.
The path of double decker bridges is about 3km long with approximately 3500 stairs and descends 2400 feet. There are three part of it and the first one is so tough to trek, it takes about 45 minutes and the remaining two parts of the bridges treks involves crossing over narrow steel suspension bridges over against the high flows of rivers.

4. Laitlum canyon
Laitlum Canyon is one of the most popular and spectacular landscape in India and it is one of the best places to visit in India. If you are a nature lover, photography lover, want to see abode of clouds then this is the best place for you. If you like to living on edge, this place having it's 3000 steps stairway that let you climb you up and down on the edge while starring at beauty and dreamy vistas that surround this place. The most beautiful in sunset and sunrise add a magical charm to the beauty of it's scenic hills slopes.

5. Dowki- Umngot river
At India and Bangladesh border a small city located named Dowki, and also having the trade hub between two countries. Here is a river named Umngot river that makes Dowki a tourist spot, the river with crystal clear water, we mean it is so clear that you can easily see the shadow of your boat onto bottom of the river. Another reason to visit here is Dowki bridge that is a suspension bridge over the river. The visitors from all over the Countries get attracted by it's distinctive charm, even abroad to take an unforgettable ride on Umngot river and make it one of the best place to visit once in Meghalaya. Nothing is so comparison to it's heavenly ride on this beautiful river surrounded by beauty.
